Where are classes held? Private lessons and classes with 4 or fewer students are held in my private studio at 250 Anderson St. in Portland. Classes and workshops with more than 4 students are held in the classroom space at Running With Scissors (same address, larger space) or at another off-site location that will be specified in the class description.
What's the difference between private lessons and group classes and workshops?
- Private lessons are custom tailored to your abilities and interests and everything including the time is customizable. Most students choose one-on-one instruction, but lessons can be shared with up to 2 additional students of your choice. You will know everyone in your party, and you will have some input into what we study.
- Group workshops and classes have a set lesson plan that everyone follows, and they meet at a designated time that is fixed. You may not know other people in the group. These classes will have a minimum of 4 students and the cap will vary depending on facility size.
What's the difference between a workshop and a class? Workshops typically happen over the course of a single day or a weekend. Classes are recurring, for example they will meet every Wednesday from 4-6:30pm for several weeks.
Can you create a custom workshop or class for me and my friends? Yes! In this case you would have control over the time, subject matter, and other variables. The minimum number of students for a custom workshop is 4. Contact me to start designing your class.
Do you teach kids? Most of the classes I currently offer are for adults and teens age 15 and older (with some flexibility). Much of this is based on the studio environment which is very much working-artist/adult-centered. Additionally the 90 minute minimum lesson time can be a lot for some kiddos. However if you have a child or group of kids that would be interested in taking a lesson or workshop please be in touch.
What type of paint is used in class? We use either acrylic or oil paints depending on the student's preference. Some off-site locations will restrict the use of oils and oil mediums so please check workshop descriptions for details. If you aren't sure which is best for you, I can help you decide.
What supplies do I need? Private lesson fees include the use of most supplies. Students are asked to provide canvases once we move on to more finished work. Classes and workshops will have a supply list in the description, or for those without their own supplies they can be provided for an additional fee.
Where do I park? There is a parking lot right next to the studio building on Anderson St. Additionally, there is plenty of free parking on both sides of the street. Please come to the front door/Main Entrance, which is up the ramp in the very front of the building.
How early should I arrive? There is no waiting room at the studio and I need to let you into the building through a secure entrance. For this reason please show up no more than 5 minutes before your lesson time. On workshop days someone will be at the door 15 minutes prior to the start time so you have ample time to get set up for the day.
Have additional questions? Please contact me and I'll get right back to you!
