Residency at Still Life Studio

Could you or an artist you know use a week of dedicated time and space to work on your craft? I’ve received the gift of an artist residency in the past and I'd like to offer a similar opportunity to another artist in the summer of 2019.

This residency will be the last week of August, Monday 8/26 to Saturday 8/31.

The residency includes the private use of the nearly 400sf classroom at Still Life Studio and on-site parking. There is no cost to the artist, but they must provide their own materials. No overnight accommodations are available.

The application process is simple and free. Send an email to Adria at and please address the following criteria...

  • A demonstrated need and the ability to put the space and time to good use. Be as specific as possible.

  • You live in Maine and can give 2 local/Maine references.

  • You work in 2D media or one that does not require ventilation or heavy tools/equipment.

  • You can move your stuff to the side/out of the way on Wednesday evening so a standing group can use the space for a few hours.

  • Please email your application by July 27th. Artists will be notified the first week of August.

If this residency appeals to you and you are not able to use it the week offered, it’s likely we’ll be able to offer this again. Please stay in touch.

It’s important to offer this residency at no cost to the artist so they may dedicate their resources toward making art. It costs them a lot to take time away from work and family and there shouldn’t be any additional financial burden. However this studio runs on a very slim margin and a residency offering like this does take time and resources. The more sponsorship we receive the more often we can offer the residency. The cost of offering a week long residency includes studio overhead, the prevention of bookings in the classroom during the week offered, administrative time to process applications, and time spent assisting the selected artist. Please donate as you are able…your dollars will help make this opportunity sustainable!
