Explore abstract painting, mark making and color theory in this full day workshop with Portland-based painter Amanda Hawkins. Students will engage in exercises that introduce a contemporary approach to abstraction followed by the completion of 1-2 finished abstract works. This is an all-levels class, students will be engaged regardless of past experience.
Most supplies included. We'll break from 12-1pm for lunch. Free parking on site.
Supply list (please bring with you):
2 primed canvases or panels of your choice, 11x14 or smaller (square or rectangle is OK).
Optional supplies (Not required but encouraged if you have your own. Ours are student grade.)
Acrylic paint: at least one of each primary red/yellow/blue, white, black, and any other favorites
A few brushes in various sizes and a palette knife
Your favorite palette
*We'll be using acrylic paint to allow for fast drying, mixed media and layering. However the techniques learned in this class will translate to other media (oil, watercolor, collage, etc.) in your own studio practice.
