Where are classes held? Classes and workshops are held in the classroom space at Still Life Studio or at an off-site location that will be specified in the class description. Private lessons and classes with 2 or fewer students are often held in Adria's private studio.
What's the difference between private lessons and group classes and workshops?
- Group workshops and classes have a set lesson plan that everyone follows, and they meet at a designated time that is fixed. You may not know other people in the group. These classes will have a minimum of 4 students and the cap will vary depending on facility size.
- Private lessons are custom tailored to your abilities and interests and everything including the time is customizable. Many students prefer one-on-one instruction, but lessons can be shared with up to 2 additional students of your choice. You will know everyone in your party, and you will have some input into what we study. For a group of more than 3, we can customize a group lesson or class just for you. Please contact to inquire.
What's the difference between a workshop and a class? Workshops typically happen over the course of a single day or a weekend. Classes are recurring, for example they will meet every Wednesday from 4-6:30pm for several weeks.
Can you create a custom workshop or class for me and my friends? Yes! In this case you would have control over the time, subject matter, and other variables. The minimum number of students for a custom workshop is 4. Contact us to start planning your class.
Do you teach kids? Most of the classes we currently offer are for adults and teens age 15 and older (with some flexibility). Much of this is based on the studio environment which is working-artist/adult-centered. The 90 minute minimum lesson time can be a lot for some kiddos. However if you have a child or group of kids that would be interested in taking a lesson or workshop please be in touch!
What type of paint is used in class? Adria uses either acrylic or oil paints in her teaching, depending on the student's preference or the focus of the workshop. Other instructors may use a variety of materials. Some workshops will restrict the use of oils and oil mediums so please check workshop descriptions for details. If you aren't sure which is best for you, I can help you decide.
What supplies do I need? Classes and workshops will have a supply list in the description, or for those without their own supplies they can be provided for an additional fee. Private lesson fees include the use of most supplies. Students are asked to provide canvases once we move on to more finished work.
Where do I park? Parking is on the street or in parking garages located on Elm St. closer to Cumberland/Congress. On weekday evenings after 5pm and all day on weekends, visitors and guests may park in the lot right next to the building on the corner of Elm and Lancaster Streets.
How early should I arrive? The studio is open by appointment only, so please arrive no more than a few minutes before your class time. On workshop days someone will be at the door 15 minutes prior to the start time so you have plenty of time to get set up for the day.
